Hussain AlMoosawi

Hussain Al Moosawi is an Emirati designer, photographer and storyteller who is actively documenting the UAE’s urban identity. Hussain’s early training is in Applied Media. After obtaining a Higher Diploma in this field in 2004, he went to Australia to study, work and live for 8 years, where he obtained his BA and MA in communication design.

A typologist by passion, Hussain’s interests range from studying subjects such as the Emirati tarboosh to documenting the UAE’s urban landscape. His ongoing project “Facade to Facade” aims to create a comprehensive visual classification system of buildings from all around the UAE, to better shape our understanding of the country’s heterogeneous architectural identity.

His practice as a visual artist stems from his never-ending quest to understand the built environment, where his documentation serves both as a cultural output and pictorial research.
