Ring of Fire and Ice
A “Ring of Fire” solar eclipse reaches annularity as two ice climbers summit the Glacier Leones in Patagonia. A drone illuminates the ice’s textures and colours, battling fierce winds that whip up plumes of snow that burn in the sun’s rays.
In the foreground, the ice is strewn with rocky debris, remnants of a landslide triggered upstream. As the glacier receded, its retreat destabilised the valley walls, making them prone to collapse. This initiated a self-perpetuating cycle with the debris darkening the ice, increasing infrared absorption and further accelerating the glacier’s melt.
Recent years has seen this glacier retreat at an alarming rate, in places loosing ten metres of thickness every year. A trend that is consistent across the globe. Amplified by greenhouse gasses, it signals the demise of our frozen landscapes. By the time an eclipse passes this location, forecasts predict that there will no longer be a glacier for anyone to stand upon.

African Flower
"An African girl, at the heart of this image, is woven into a painterly scene by Dutch artist Eelke Jelles Eelkema (1815–1839). Her presence brings new life to the historical canvas, like a bridge between worlds, times and cultures. She wears a dress that shines like silk, but is made of recycled plastic — a quiet reference to the urgency of our times.

This portrait is not meant to beautify, but to honor – to give space to the truth of the face, exactly as it is. In the encounter between shadow and light, the woman appears both infinitely strong and fragile, a living witness to the poetry of life. This image is therefore more than a portrait; it is a study of human experience, a visual poem written in skin, hair, and light.

Self-portrait
At first, the raw image is merely a visual record, but over time, meaning begins to emerge within it. An element that once seemed insignificant may now carry a deep emotional weight. A composition that was just a form may now conceal a narrative. Our minds, even without conscious awareness, make choices in the moment of capture, leaving behind an imprint. But this imprint is not always immediately legible. Sometimes, we need time to see it again, to understand it anew, and perhaps even to reconstruct it. Photographs are not just reflections of reality; they are starting points for a new dialogue with our subconscious. The mind creates the image, even when we have yet to understand what we were searching for.

Pagliaccio
Pagliaccio (Clown), as an Actor of Social Parody The clown is closely tied to the world of theatre, having been born on the Elizabethan stage. Closely related to the court jester, he intervenes unexpectedly during the play, addresses both the characters and the audience, establishing a connection between them — much like the Greek chorus in the great tragedies of classical antiquity. In the commedia dell’arte, these “clowns,” unable to speak, are primarily artists of the body. This aligns with the idea, as described by Pascal Jacob, of freedom of form, of independence, and the desire to transcend limitations. A character who embodies all the contradictions and paradoxes that reside within us, the clown gives us permission to be who we truly are. He also attains a symbolic incarnation of the human face, conveying a raw, unveiled truth — revealed behind the makeup, which here becomes a dissolving mask. This figure allows us to graphically explore the gap between truth and illusion — the very essence of any photographic work. He represents humanity itself: a tragic figure, or a spiritual one. The fear of death takes a detour through the smile. The same method was used for these series: over the course of a day of experimentation on a theatre stage lit as if for a live performance, with a collection of costumes and props serving an unknown narrative, photographer and performer immerse themselves in complete improvisation, for the duration of the session. A chosen duo, an improvised dialogue. A series of portraits — of artists, performers, or unknown individuals met by chance — captured either frozen or mid-motion, in an exploration of gesture and light.

Threads of Heritage
This photograph portrays the last traditional weaver from the Wilayat of Adam in Oman’s Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, a man who embodies both the fragility and strength of cultural heritage. Sitting on a simple mat against the earthen walls of his ancestral home, he continues a craft that has nearly vanished, weaving threads not only of fabric but of memory, identity, and continuity. Every detail in the frame speaks to a story centuries old: the rough texture of the mud walls echoing the endurance of a lifestyle rooted in the land, the vibrant turban on his head symbolizing pride in local tradition, and the white cloth between his hands carrying forward the essence of Omani attire. His bare feet rest firmly on the mat, grounding him to the earth, while his hands move with precision, repeating motions passed down through generations. The act of weaving here transcends function. It becomes an intimate dialogue between man and heritage, a quiet resistance against the erosion of time. In his face, marked with age and resilience, one sees the weight of responsibility — the duty to preserve a craft that once flourished in every household but now survives in the dedication of only a few. The photograph’s composition emphasizes both human presence and cultural symbolism. The loom’s ropes form lines that lead the viewer’s eye directly to his focused hands, the true heart of the story. The interplay of light and shadow dramatizes the scene, highlighting the fragile balance between survival and disappearance of this art form. By documenting this moment, the image becomes more than a portrait; it is an archive of intangible heritage, a tribute to the last weaver of Adam, and a reminder that culture lives only as long as people keep it alive.

Morning Jog 2
It was filmed on April 7, 2025, on Baffin Island, Canada. The Arctic has a very special, fragile, and highly interconnected ecosystem. A decline or extinction of one Arctic species is likely to trigger a chain reaction, leading to the decline or even extinction of other species. Polar bears are marine mammals and one of the most iconic animals, facing the threat of extinction due to global climate change. Polar bears rely on the extreme cold of the Arctic more than other animals because without enough sea ice, they cannot rest or hunt. On Baffin Island in Canada, I encountered a mother polar bear with her two cubs running across the icy landscape. The mother was teaching her cubs how to hunt and survive in the wild, exploring the cold world outside. The polar bears ran so fast that the scene passed in the blink of an eye, and it was not easy to lift the camera and press the shutter to take the shot in such freezing conditions.

CON – A Window to Beyond
The award-winning work ICON takes its inspiration from the Greek word meaning “sacred window.” Near my studio in Tokyo, I looked up through a red monument framing the Tokyo Skytree, and in that moment the familiar urban landscape appeared transformed — no longer just a tower, but something iconic, almost sacred. What I wanted to express is that “the extraordinary is hidden within the ordinary.” By placing a frame around a familiar view, the scene turns into a symbol, and the everyday acquires a new significance. This is not an escape from reality, but rather an invitation to see daily life with fresh eyes. For me, photography itself is a journey to search for such “windows.” A shift in perspective can reveal the beauty and dignity within what we often take for granted. That realization is the very reason I photograph, and the way I deepen my understanding of life. This work, ICON, most directly embodies that experience. By reframing a landmark of the city, I wanted to show how an ordinary scene can transform into an image of reverence and gratitude. I call this moment a “sacred window.” This recognition reaffirmed my belief that photography is more than recording beauty — it is the act of opening windows that allow us to honor life and the everyday.

Metamorphosis
Metamorphosis This photograph is a visual exploration of the concept of human metamorphosis , the symbolic act of “shedding skin” as part of emotional and personal evolution. The idea behind the work rests on the belief that growth is impossible without change, and letting go of the past is a necessary step toward rebirth. The image invites viewers to contemplate the ongoing process of transformation and becoming within human life. The model represents a being suspended between two states , the self of the past and the self in the midst of rebirth. Her calm, introspective posture reveals both vulnerability and strength in the moment of change. The bird’s nest serves as a symbol of continuity and the cycle of life. While the subject sheds her skin, the nest reminds us that transformation is not the negation of the past, but its integration into a renewed self. The snake stands as the central symbol of the piece. Its natural act of shedding evokes courage, vulnerability, and evolution. Its serene yet powerful presence recalls the truth that genuine transformation requires both surrender and strength. Every element , from light and color to composition and facial expression , is designed to balance control and emotion. Ultimately, this work is a visual meditation on the human journey of shedding and rebirth, a reminder that growth demands the courage to let go.

Lingering Shadows explores the quiet weight of women’s invisible labor and emotional fatigue in everyday life. Using self-portraiture, staged domestic scenes, and a restrained blue palette, I construct surreal fragments of routine — pouring tea, dressing, pausing, reflecting — that speak of repetition, futility, and inner solitude. The color blue becomes both a refuge and a confinement, symbolizing calmness and quiet despair. This work reimagines self-portraiture as a dialogue between the visible and the hidden self — between personal exhaustion and the collective experience of women whose daily resilience often remains unseen.

A tribute to Grandpa
A tribute to the grandfather is a photo in praise of the memories left by people. It can be said that, after death the photos left by people provide the most vivid and expressive memories for humans and are a bridge between the present and the past. I made this photo using the double exposure method. The photo you see is made by superimposing two frames. The first is a photo from an old family album taken around 1956 of my grandfather and four uncles in a private photography studio, and the second is a frame of plants from my grandfather's yard that are still alive. Thirty-one years ago, my grandfather and eleven years ago, my grandmother said goodbye to life, but thanks to the presence and care of one of my uncles, the flowers and plants of the house are still growing and alive. The second frame is from just recently, when in the spring there were new leaves on their branches.

Santa Claus Off Duty
“Santa Claus Off Duty” is a portrait of love that has survived both time and fire. In the photograph, Vance and Judy stand in a quiet, tender embrace before their burgundy Chevrolet Camaro SS, bathed in soft golden moonlight along the California coast, watched over by their curious little white dog. For more than fifty years, Vance and Judy built a life full of ritual and devotion. One of those rituals was Vance’s annual role as his community’s Santa Claus, a tradition he began at eighteen. Each December, he drove this very Camaro through Southern California, delivering gifts to children who looked forward to the man in red. But in early 2025, the Eaton Fire swept through their Los Angeles neighborhood and reduced nearly everything they owned to ashes. Their home—the place where decades of memories had lived—disappeared overnight. In the days that followed, Vance and Judy stood in the ruins of their life, holding each other in the very same posture seen in this photograph. That embrace was their way of saying goodbye to the past, acknowledging the enormity of their loss while drawing strength from the one thing the fire could not consume: their bond. The Camaro, parked away from home on the day of the fire, survived by chance. It became more than a car—it became a reminder that not everything was lost. This Christmas is their first after the fire. The photograph was created not only to honor the season but to capture their rise from grief. Where they once stood among ashes, they now stand in moonlight—still holding each other, but sweeter, steadier, and with a quiet hope for the future. By placing Santa’s coat on the car instead of on Vance, the image gently asks: When Santa is off duty, who is he? And the answer is profoundly simple—he is a man who has loved and endured, and she is the woman who has stood beside him through every heartbreak and every miracle. Set against the warm Pacific coastline rather than snow, “Santa Claus Off Duty” becomes a story not only of Christmas but of resilience, remembrance, and the courage to begin again.

Surface Tension
In Surface Tension, I construct a surreal tableau where a fish hovers midair between three elemental materials like water, wood, and void. A crumpled sheet of blue paper evokes a stylized sea, while a thermowood panel from Brolis Timber introduces the tactile presence of human craftsmanship and structure. Between them, a red ring floats as a silent symbol of transition, balance, and the artificial thresholds we impose on nature.
The composition invites the viewer to question perception, motion, and the fragile relationship between the organic and the constructed. My precise control of lighting and spatial harmony creates a painterly stillness, suggesting that the moment of suspension is both absurd and sublime. The image blurs the boundaries between object photography and visual poetry, transforming a simple studio scene into a meditation on materiality, design, and human interference in natural cycles.
Balancing humour and depth, Surface Tension stands as a testament to my conceptual approach where minimalism, craftsmanship, and storytelling converge in a quiet act of visual equilibrium.

Nature’s Crossing
A bull moose crosses a misty river in the Tetons one frosty morning. Getting the shot took planning and lots of research. I had tried for this photo the year before with no luck, and this year bought special waders giving me access to a low angle in the water. During winter in Grand Teton National Park about twenty bull moose congregate in a specific area of sage flats where a hot spring maintains water flow. My elderly friend Steve invited me to keep him company for safety on this trip, and each morning we tried our luck hoping for a moose crossing until everything aligned perfectly on the 5th day. Wildlife will always drink in the morning, and picking the right spot on a long river takes preparation, patience, and luck. As the sunrise heated up frost, a dreamy mist filled the air and added to this breathtaking moment. Moose have always fascinated me since my childhood of taking road trips up from New Jersey to Maine; a fun fact is their antler is the fastest growing bone in the animal kingdom, gaining about 1 foot each month-- sometimes as fast as one inch per day-- until they shed them mid-winter. They are massive majestic miracles of the animal kingdom.

Lovers
You can only be enchanted by this scene and almost feel their breaths, with the head of one leaning against the other, that gently cradles her, hugging her, wrapping her as if to protect her. Their hands are intertwine in search of a very intimate and deep contact. The place is one of the many streets in Venice between buildings with bricks with typical red color that combined with the white robes of the two lovers adds charm, almost to unintentionally represent a picture of Renaissance painting

Between Sand and Surf
Captured during the practice day for the 2025 Bells Beach Pro surf competition. I was photographing friends when this young surfer waited politely for me to finish before heading down to the water. When I looked down from the elevated position, this perfect moment was unfolding.
The solitary walk with the surfboard, footprints creating a perfect line dividing the chaos of breaking waves from the stillness of untouched sand. My camera was packed away, so I grabbed my iPhone. The spontaneous nature of the capture adds to its authenticity.
The image explores themes of solitude, preparation, and that universal moment of gathering your thoughts before doing something that matters. The contrast between the turbulent surf and calm sand creates a visual metaphor for the mental state before paddling out into competition.
Technical Note: Shot on iPhone 13Pro from an elevated viewing platform, capturing the aerial perspective that reveals the surfer's journey and the dividing line between two worlds.

Hidden Dialogue
Captured at the Ryuichi Sakamoto exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo on 16 Jan 2025, this moment appeared just as the fog began to loosen its hold on the room. Two figures emerged at the centre, standing close yet suspended in their own quiet world, facing one another as if exchanging a conversation no one else could hear - or perhaps sharing only silence. The crowd drifted somewhere beyond them, distant and blurred, while they remained fixed in the fading haze, an accidental tableau of intimacy and mystery. Unclear, fleeting, yet profoundly poetic.

Dragon’s Eye
An aerial view of the Hveravellir geothermal area in Iceland shows a natural formation that looks like an animal’s eye. A dark, deep-blue pool sits at the center, surrounded by rough, textured ground in rich brown shades. The mineral deposits create a layered effect, adding to the eye-like appearance. The surrounding rocky landscape is barren, making the formation stand out even more. The whole scene has a raw, natural beauty that feels almost alive.

Another World
This is a top-down drone capture of a fever of cownose rays dividing a school of menhaden fish. Taken just off the coast of Southampton, New York. On this day, which also happened to be my 50th birthday I was marveled to see so many cownose rays. We had just experienced a westerly swell which often makes the ocean much clearer than normal. The wind was from the south which created very calm conditions. The sun was bright, and the skies were clear which allowed light rays to diffuse through the water and light up the bursting sand clouds below. Conditions could not have been more perfect and with my beach chair and umbrella I was set for shooting all day.
I have only spotted one or two of these cownose rays in this region within the past 3 years. With great excitement to see a fever of rays, I carefully watched them traverse the shoreline for hours. When they crossed paths with a large school of menhaden, the fish scattered in a uniform manner creating an incredible visual tale, which I was ever so ready to capture.

Lofofoten Sunrise
The Lofoten Islands in Northern Norway have unique landscapes. The whole scenery can be captured from the air. Here you can see a wonderful sunrise over the picturesque fishing villages of Hamnoy, Sakrisoy and Reine. The sun creates a spectacular rainbow in the perfect spot. Speechless.

A Sea of Devotion
Captured above Chowpatty, Mumbai, this aerial frame shows the vibrant chaos of Ganesh Visarjan, a sea of people draped in pink and devotion. At the heart stands the idol of Lord Ganesha, surrounded by rhythmic chants, drumbeats, and clouds of color. What’s often missed is the sheer unity in motion, thousands moving as one, a collective heartbeat bidding farewell to their beloved Bappa with joy, energy, and emotion

Bouquet of Flowers
The RiverTale project began mid 2024 when I eventually decided to visit Iceland. Motivated by the "Tree of Life" series of famous Italian photographer Isabella Tabacchi I wanted to photograph structures and, therefore, I studied online maps for hours ... and found this wonderful valley. In June 2024 I could do the shootings - what an experience to fly the drone thru this valley, so unreal, almost supernatural.
In this valley on the Icelandic Highlands water finds its way shaping the land into majestic forms, symbolizing resilience and interconnectedness. Rivulets, streams and brooks seemingly run over and under each other, crossing, parting and melting again, creating wonderful abstracts, that let your phantasy run.
